darth_kitten Posted November 11 Posted November 11 Hi All, Wondering if there is a modern part number for the differential input shaft seal? Or is NOS still available? Thanks! Mark Quote
darth_kitten Posted November 13 Author Posted November 13 Also looking for the snap ring that is almost impossible to remove. G179-5308173 A308173 Ring, snap, S,1 3/8 ID, 1 11/16 OD, 0.093 thk (low range gear sleeve) H013-0500286 500286 A307440 Seal, Oil, type ML 1 3/16 x 2.004 x 7/16 (front bearing) Quote
darth_kitten Posted November 14 Author Posted November 14 FYI, neither of these parts are available from Dave Y. I think I can source the snap ring from my spare diff. Hopefully I can source a seal even though the thickness won't be the same. 1 Quote
Patrick Tipton Posted November 14 Posted November 14 Mark....both of the seals in my machines were still decent so I left them in. The oil is not super high in the final drive so these don't appear too prone to leak. Keep us posted. 1 Quote
Jim Gilmore Posted November 15 Posted November 15 FYI on original oil seals.....if they are the original rawhide ones you MUST soak them in oil (30 wt is good) for at least 24 hours. If not they will burn/glaze on the sealing surface and will leak. In the old days shops had a coffee can with oil in it and seals soaking in it. 1 Quote
darth_kitten Posted November 17 Author Posted November 17 Managed to pirate the snap ring from my spare differential, and inspected my old input shaft seal. I looks reusable, so that is the path I shall take. 1 Quote
