  1. The big, heavy plates need not be used to secure the outer part of the band. Simpler, and just as effective with conveyor belt is some good graded bolts, fender washers, and good lock nuts. I built 3 sets of tracks since I restored my weasel, and had plans for the 4th type of design. Graded elevator bolts will work for the inside row of bolts, but are a pain to install.

  2. Good idea. Were not marketing any universal joints for the winch drive as they are available new from several sources. The ones in the pictures are just for testing. One comment though, if all weasels are like the one I had, the fan would not clear the rubber boot on the u joint under it. It was real tight. At the time, I had considered replacing the entire contraption with a magnetic clutch like on my John Deere mower.

  3. We also have winch drive train parts: sliding clutch and fork, telescoping drive shaft, the bearing and shims, and locking ring for the lower pulley. Lock ring and thrust washer for splined shaft. Send us your bracket, splined shaft, shift arm and pulley and well put it all together. $500 for all that. We have both of the cable clamps. The rest of the parts are available commercially NOS.

  4. We recently disassembled two fairly complete Weasels just for the float tanks. The hulls were pretty far gone, but even there are some good parts if you’ve had doors cut in yours. We have all kinds of parts that I was missing when I restored mine several years ago, and had to search high and low or make them. Let me know what you might need. No tracks, wipers, spotlights, seats of course. I ship slow as I depend on others to do the leg work (just ask DRH).

  5. We just rebuilt two sets of tanks. One would need to find someone who has them apart like that to do the drawings. Neither of us were up to that. Really not much fancy work involved, just a lot of work. The diverters would be the hardest.

  6. I dont know that we’ll ever float it. When I restored it in 2014 i never intended to make it a floater, so didnt seal all the bolts in the bottom. That would be a lot of work now. I’m afraid I would forget to do something like all the bilge plugs and go right to the bottom.

  7. We just got it done. My son has a hard time driving it. I’m scared to drive it. I remember it used to come alive in the snow. I would imagine it rocks more front to rear than it already did. Forward visibility is terrible now. Well, thats progress.
