Larry Mass
Hi has anyone here overhauled their transmission i am having trouble getting the shifter forks lined up and gears in the right place. I have a manual but it doesn't give instructions on how to line everything up. I am loosing my hair from scratching my head so much there must be a easy way. Patrick Tipton
Have you dropped the cluster gear so you can get the main shaft and output shaft lined up? I use a small rod (1/4") to hold the cluster gear and usually use grease to hold the spacers/thrust washers in place while I am inserting the main shaft. Larry Mass
Thanks Patrick i got it together but the main shaft bearing sticks out it won't go back to the snap ring and if i force it with the retainer it locks up. It turns loose and free if there is no pressure on the main shaft could it be the 13 needle bearings are out of place.
Patrick Tipton
Yes these T84s are a little fiddly. I think I might drop the cluster gear and just try to assemble the shafts to make sure everything works. Then go back and try to get it put back together. Larry Mass
This is a t96 1a but i am sure they are very similar i would consider putting a t84 in it if i could find one. Do you put the needle bearings on the shaft or inside the main shaft housing Larry
Patrick Tipton
Inside the main shaft housing with plenty of grease to keep them in place. Good luck!
Jesse Browning
Search for one of the rock crawler forums or one of the suppliers. This is a very popular transmission among them, and lots of parts and info are available.
